Senior Research Award
The NRC Associateship Programs
The National Research Council (NRC) administers competitive postdoctoral and senior research awards on behalf of 30 U.S. government research agencies with facilities at over 120 locations throughout the U.S. and abroad.
Eligibility
Awards are available for scientists and engineers at all statges of their career. Applicants should hold, or anticipate receiving, an earned doctorate in science or engineering.
The Application Process
Applications for awards are reviewed by panels of distinguished scientists and engineers representing the disciplines of Chemistry; Earth and Atmospheric Sciences; Engineering, Applied Science, and Mathematics; Life Sciences; Space Sciences; and Physics. Applications are reviewed four times each year. Receiving an NRC Research Assocaite Award
Postdoctoral awards are for 12 months with renewal up to 3 years. Senior research awards may be for shorter periods of time. Summer Faculty awards are for 8-14 weeks, renewable for up to 3 successive summers.
Stipend and Benefits
Research Associates receive annual stipends ranging from $36,000 to $65,000 for recent graduates and proportionally higher for Senior Associates. In addition, the NRC provides health insurance, relocation benefits and an allowance for professional travel. The host laboratory provides research facilities, equipment and funding for supplies to support the Associate's research.

2005 Long Island Sound Study
Science and Technical Advisory Committee
Fellowship Program

Background
As part of the Long Island Sound Study (LISS), the Environmental Protection Agency-Long Island Sound Office (EPA-LISO), Connecticut Sea Grant, and New York Sea Grant are cooperating to award partial fellowships to two graduate students to participate in and support the work of the LISS Scientific and Technical Advisory Committee (STAC).
In 2005, the LISS will award half-time fellowships to two graduates students. One applicant will be selected from a Connecticut institution and one from a New York institution. Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited doctoral or masters program.
Proposal Design and Submission
The following materials must be included in an application:
1. A proposal cover page that includes the name of the student, the student's university and whether he or she is enrolled in a masters or doctoral program, and the name and title of the student's advisor.
2. A description (three pages maximum) of the student's interests in coastal management, of how the student's research
reflect this interest, and the significance and relevance of the student's research to the management of Long Island Sound.
3. A resume of the student.
4. A letter from the University stating that the student is enrolled in an accredited doctoral or masters program.
5. A letter of support from the student's advisor certifying the advisor's commitment to the goal of the fellowship and the student's time commitment to participate in the Long Island Sound Study.
